Style File: Delightfully Dotty

With Celebs going dotty with spots and polka dots this season, make sure you liven up your wardrobe with these stylish prints.  This fun and fashionable 60’s trend is the ultimate look for a fashion forward female.

Anyone can wear dots, so if you fancy polka chic rather than adorably sweet then mix a high waisted pencil skirt and knitted top with polka dots like these gorgeous items from Miss Fortune.

Look flirty wearing a versatile polkadot dress that will take you from work to dinner with friends in a matter of seconds by adding a red belt and cardigan.
Polka dots come in all shapes and sizes so if you are a bit on the heavy side, try to wear smaller polka dots like this black cotton shirt polka-print dress with a detachable belt which is more flattering to fuller figures.
While nautical colours of navy, white and red can be suited to a more sophisticated look such as this gorgeous empire lined Rockabilly dress by Collectif which is a steal in the sale so put your orders in while stocks last.

Alternatively add extra pizazz to your outfits by adding polka dot accessories.
Spots can be a bit overwhelming so keep things simple and you’ll be spot on .

THE TELEGRAPH: Where can I buy a full petticoat for a 1950s themed Jubilee party?

Wow, I've been so busy the last few months with the websites and my 2 toddlers that I didn't notice that we got a mention in The Telegraph: Where can I buy a full petticoat for a 1950s themed Jubilee party?  Ok, they do say that browsing online is much less fun and rewarding than browsing shops, but we do hope that our customers enjoy browsing our website as much as we enjoy running it :)

Denim in Rockabilly?

There so much vintage and retro going on right now. We are thinking those long A-line skirts, flared dresses with puffed petticoats, that cheeky nautical look complete with stripes and bows. Who could get more cuter than that? The fabrics one will find on all those retro inspired frocks are elasticated cotton or nylon based ones, designed to sit softly on your curves and make any budding retro goddess look just fine! Lavish and decadent are words that instantly spring to mind.

But that was then and this is now: Yes it's true that Rockabilly has its roots in 1950's style, but fashion has come a long way. What about denim? One of fashions most recognized fabrics since way back when the likes of a brooding James Dean made his pair of Lee 101 jeans famous in Rebel Without a Cause. Denim has become a part of fashion consciousness ever since. Is there any place for this hard wearing and fitting fabric in today's Rockabilly Pin Up...?

Signature Turned Up Blue Denim Pencil Skirt  £39.50
The answer is a resounding 'Yes'! Denim has never been hotter. Any great Rockabilly look is about wearing items of clothing that will skim those feminine curves, and nothing does that better than denim! Fitting snugly onto those hips and with  all those pretty details too. This Signature pencil skirt with it's kinky zip and turn up features add a twist to the archetypal little denim skirt.

Want something Rockabilly for your formal office look? Think 'Nautical' for your inspiration, smart but at the same time playful. The Nautical Nancy skirt from Rockabilly Pin Up is a great way to spruce up any office outfit by adding a huge dollop of Rockabilly! The darted hem line along with the high waist feature are perfect examples of why denim is just right for that professional Pin-Up look. Team with a stripy top (as featured) or even a fitted open top blouse.
Nautical Nancy Denim Pencil Skirt £37.50
It's not just skirts that use this iconic material to it's full advantage. Rockabilly Pin Up have this stunning denim and gingham sailor style dress by Nubia on offer. The fitted bodice is the epitome of glamour and will enhance where needed! The pretty sailor detailing on the bodice is super cute. A full swing skirt in gingham fabric comes with cheeky tulle underskirt! Only more proof if needed that denim can be delicious!

SOURPUSS SHOWER CURTAINS & GIFTWARE

Would you believe that we're already stocking up for Christmas!!  And that's because our customers are already buying Xmas presents, and of course whilst many of us are still waiting for summer to arrive Christmas is nearer than we think!!  The brand Sourpuss provides a large selection of giftware, their shower curtains are always hot sellers, as well as their kitchen sets which consist of a padded oven glove and pot holder in tattoo and pinup inspired prints.  We also restocked popular bags including the Cherry Houndstooth and Out to Sea Octopus print bag.  These are great for carrying all your essentials for trips to the beach on your holiday, and of course why not look at the beach towels printed with saucy pinup girls and nautical inspired themes.  New to the website are the enamel Sassy Anchor and True Love necklaces to match the earrings that have been selling really well.  Also new is the RIP Psycho Pinup T-shirt featuring a skeletal pinup girl on tomb stone.  There's also some Sourpuss on sale so don't hesitate to view all the items here.

Bring Glamour to the Office

The Pan dress by Glamour Bunny is the perfect retro-style dress for the office, parties and weddings. This classic dress is made from a comfortable soft stretch cotton which hugs your curves but is thick enough to hide any imperfections and underwear.  The pan collar accentuates the flattering rounded neckline and there is the classic button detail down the front. At the back is a concealed zip and hook and eye (an essential item lacking in many modern day dresses!) and an elegant split on the skirt.

The only problem with this dress is that it's made in 3 colours, and it's not that easy to choose just one!!  Dark Grey with black contrast collar and buttons is perfect for the office, black is simply sexy, and red is just hot!!  Just add pumps or heels, and a pretty flower in your hair, and you're ready to impress.  And of course a vinyl handbag and cherry necklace by Glamour Bunny finishes the whole outfit off nicely.

This dress is available at Rockabilly Pinup here for £79.50.

Retro style handbags made from vinyl and leopard print are perfect with the classic pinup dresses, and the cherry necklaces are literally, the cherry on top!

Rockabilly Pin-Up for beginners!

Rockabilly has exploded onto our fashion consciousness in the past few years- but actually when you think about it, it was always there; Rockabilly has just grown up and evolved becoming so much more fun! How could you go wrong with wonderfully feminine pin-up style pencil skirts, or nautical themed outfits? It’s dressing up for grownups and is great! The whole look, hair and make-up are all heavily inspired from another era, one that was bolder, not afraid to be different. This is just one of the elements of Rockabilly style that make it so popular!

Here’s the history bit: Rockabilly was initially the name given to a style of music of the 1950’s, a combination of Rock and Roll with Deep South ‘Hill Billy’ music. Take this musical influence with fashion and add a huge dollop of Ultra-Feminine Pin up style and voila! You have the recipe for Rockabilly Pin Up!

Anyone can emulate a fashion icon with Rockabilly Pin Up style: It’s perfect for curvier and slimmer girls alike- there are no manufactured listless cloned models in sight. To get ‘Pin-Up’ girl right you must think ‘individual and original’. It allows you as the wearer to be as fantastical as you like with your costumes! Whether you choose to go for nautical-inspired swimwear or slip into that cheeky little wiggle dress! In a nutshell, Rockabilly is a combination of the vintage and retro, sensual feminine curves colour and shape.

How to rock the Rockabilly for the first time: It may be a daunting thought if you haven’t tried anything like this before. Here are a few pointers to get you started on achieving the look.

Hair plays a massive role in your Rockabilly style! It is normally pinned back neatly, but there are variations on this- so feel free to experiment with floral and feminine hair accessories! Think the Victory Rolls of the 1940’s or a blunt fringe. Hair colour is also important: Stunning reds and block colours are very Rockabilly.

Make-up is bold and beautiful: Flawless skin, eye lined eyes to achieve that cat-eyed flick at the outer corners. Pillar Box red is the characteristic look for lips! Also don’t shy away from showing off your tattoos and piercings, it’s a huge bonus. If you have them, flaunt them!

A simple Rockabilly outfit for beginners could be a pair of fitted cropped trousers with a short cardigan or nautical top. There is only one main condition for any Rockabilly outfit: And that is that it must make you feel amazing! Accessorising could be a skull and cross bones brooch or cherries. These are strong elements of the Rockabilly look along with Bows and Anchors. Slip on some girly shoes which will round off your basic Rockabilly style. Once this is mastered, you will find that you naturally gravitate towards experimenting more.

Like Gothic style, your Rockabilly inspired wardrobe should be tailor made for you: You are able to pick up some fabulous items online - Take a peek at some of the exclusive pieces we have on offer at www.rockabillypinup.co.uk.
