Festive Frocks

We're up to our noses in holiday prep here, and we're as giddy as schoolgirls about it!
OK, we're not all that keen on all the housecleaning we had to do (though it did mean reorganising our closet, and we're always up for that), but our pantry is stocked full of fragrant spices and enough chocolate to feed a small army, and we're doing the next thing we love best- planning our holiday outfits!

There are so many dinners and parties to attend, and all of them are a glorious excuse to dress and overdress, so we made (as we always do), several sets for our and your inspiration.

Of course, we have to have a Vamp set, and it really has to include a lurex top and a wiggle skirt. It has just the right amount of sparkle to draw attention while still being very appropriate for any type of work party. Pair with red nail polish and some lacquered shoes and purse for a really vampy look.

A more glamorous version has to involve a siren inspired dress, and glamour deserves some black lace and a red (faux) fur shrug. After all, 'tis the season! Keep the accessories matte for an extra sleek look, and just add a swish of red lipstick.

Then again, there's the romantic outing. Perhaps a walk through the Christmas fair or a cosy dinner for two? Which ever, we've got you covered. A dress with floral details and a matching cardi, paired with a pair of comfy and pretty wedges for those evening strolls under Christmas lights.

We saved the sweetest outfit for last. Cute and stylish, it just calls for a meal with your loved ones, be they friends or family. We love the combo of red and green, and the holiday season is the perfect time to wear it.

You can't go wrong with navy,  this slim fit Vanessa Wiggle dress is sexy yet has a festive feel with a bit of red contrast with the belt and ruched crossover bust.  We teamed with the matching accessories, a faux leather coat and a slip on heel all featured on our Polyvore pages.

Oh kitten!

We're big fans of cats, kitties and kittens. We've been known to utter the phrase: "Are you kittin' me ?!" on more than one occasion and only half jokingly.

In fact, we write most of our blog posts with a kitty in our lap, and still it didn't ever occur to us to dedicate a whole blog post to what we consider to be the best relaxing companions ever. Well, until now that is.

We stocked up some new cat-print dresses in the store, and used them as inspiration to feel all kinds of lovely as the days get colder and we start spending more time indoors with a cup of tea, a good book and a cat in our lap. It would be just too easy to get in a frumpy sweater and some slacks and hibernate until spring, but we pinup gals are made of sterner stuff!

We don't know about you, but a wiggle dress is always bound to improve our mood, and this kitten print one is just what the doctor ordered.  With a cool blue paired with chic black, this very vamp dress gets a new, playful side thanks to the playful kittens chasing yarn on it! Pair with gold and black details for a very classical look.

Speaking of classical- seamed stockings! We picked up a pair of black RHT stockings with a red seam, because frankly, what can suit a dress of red and black better? We knew this playful and cute dress needed just that extra little something to push it into the vamp direction, and we found it with red nail polish, black stiletto booties and a ring from our sister site.

But sometimes, you just want to go for the classics.  A front tie top is just the perfect match fr this black skirt adorned with a pink and purple kitten pattern. We added a polka dot bandana for that proper vintage look and a pair of cluster earrings to match the skirt pattern colours.

We totally ran wild with pink here. Pink earrings, pink cardigan, pink lipstick and even pink sunglasses to perfectly set off the powder blue dress and heels. This soft coloured dress can only benefit from bolder accent pieces as it brings out the unique combo of playfulness and elegance in it. Just like a cat, when you think about it!

Don't forget you can see all the details of the sets on our polyvore page!

Last minute Halloween

We here at Rockabilly Pinup are all up in a tizzy over Halloween!  We've been racking our brains for days trying to decide on the perfect Halloween costume, but we have been so spoiled for choice! We also wanted to have a costume that we could put together from our own closet, and look stylish in, so we sat down and came up with 4 costume ideas from classic to the more unusual and are now sharing them with you.

We can't think of a more appropriate Halloween costume than a witch! The novelty print dress is full of seasonal spirit, but if you are a Rockabella of a creepy bent, you can wear it the year round. If you don't have a Halloween print dress on hand, a simple black dress will do. All this outfit really needs is a small witch hat. The broom is entirely optional.

The Mime is always a very easy last-minute costume to put together. All you really need is a striped top, a beret and a bandanna. You can even forgo the white face paint and opt for a more toned-down look.  You can swap out this dress for a pair of capris and one of our striped tops for a more authentic look.

Alice in wonderland is a great example of a small white cocktail apron doing wonders (we refuse to apologize for this pun).  Any dress in a solid blue or teal colour will do, and if you don't have a pair of queen of hearts heels, you can always make do with a pair of flats. Tuck a pair of playing cards in the waistband of the apron and tie a white ribbon as an Alice band, and you're good to go!

We left the Little Red Riding Hood for last. The owl and forest themed dress, paired with a wicker basket and a red hooded cape may not be the easiest costume to pull together last minute, but any of our pretty  patterned dresses combined with a red hood will do. Now all you need is your big bad wolf!

Late Summer

It seems almost as if summer always saves best for last!  Mild, warm days, fresh nights, and a ton of excuses to go out and meet friends and family. We were inspired by the prospect of date nights and get-togethers to put together a few outfit ideas and sets that will make you shine, no matter what the occasion. Just don’t forget to pack a cardi with you in case it gets cold!
What better way to enjoy a picnic than with a light cotton dress and a pair of comfy shoes? There is no need for lots of jewellery, so we kept it to a pair of vintage style earrings, and instead opted to accent our look with a cherry- embroidered cardigan.

A cocktail party is a lovely way to celebrate late summer.  The monochrome colours will give you an elegant and timeless look, and the floral purse will add a touch of femininity. You don’t need much else except for some pink lip gloss, and you’re ready to go!  Dress.

What better place for a date than the pier? It’s no longer too hot to enjoy cotton candy, and the ice cream no longer melts in your hand. We added a cheeky necklace to this very basic capri and boat neck top set to give it a more playful and polished look.

Sunday is the perfect day to dress up and go have a lovely lunch somewhere outside. The restaurants still have their terraces open, and after a nice lunch, why not go for a stroll to find that perfect dessert?

Femmes fatales

There is nothing quite like the femme fatale! It is the other side of the vintage coin- and one that is equally alluring to all vintage loving gals. There is something especially fun about being a bad girl, even if it is for just a day (or night). It’s a new and unexpected freedom, and a different way of self-expression. This time we are celebrating the bad girls - the vamps, the femmes fatales, the ones from the wrong side of the track!
We’re kicking it off with The poisoner - Dressed in black from toe to head, with a full moon applique skirt and a daring top, and jewellery that labels her as poison, she is indeed something quite different and special, and to be handled with care!

Deadly sweet is anything but the girl next door. In tight capris and a skull-cherrynecklace, she’ll lure you to your doom with a wink behind her paper parasol.  We also played around with the nautical theme, perfect for the warm summer days and luring sailors to their doom.

Vicious is one dangerous lady. In a bold red dress and high heels, she may look as pretty as an orchid, but remember that orchids are one dangerous, seductive flower! And if you get too close, you’ll see that the heart she wears around her neck is black as night.

And we left our Spider’s kiss for last. She wears her darkness proudly with a spider web skirt and jewellery from the gothic shop. It’s the best of both worlds! She’s our nod to the Gothabilly- a perfect blend of rockabilly and goth.

Which one of these is your favourite?

Don’t forget you can find all of these sets on our polyvore site too!

Frockabilly Heaven!

With the long Summer days upon us we have been enjoying every drop of sunshine thrown our way!  Dresses, tie tops, capri trousers and accessories have been styled and swapped to give us something exciting to wear everyday.

We have selected a few of our favourite frocks to wear while enjoying al fresco dinner, cocktails or a luncheon at a beach cafe.

Fresh and floral the Bernice 50's Swing dress is covered in tulips, the button detail adds shape to the sweetheart neckline and thin straps show off the shoulders.

The Carla dotty red and black dress is a stunning swing dress, the fitted bodice is flirty and feminine while the polkadot skirt is flared and fun, perfect for a dinner date.

Red hot Bette Stripe dress is bold and bright, this little beauty is perfect for a day at the seaside, think sand between your toes and the salty sea mist in your hair followed by fish and chips.
